High School Counseling

Led by our school counselor, Eric Jablonski, each upper form student participates in high school counseling sessions. During these conversations, students and families understand the high school application process, and have opportunities to learn more about the schools of interest to them. Given that our students are blessed with many excellent secondary school opportunities, Eric discusses with each student what they are most interested in pursuing at the next level. Striking a strong balance between a rigorous academic program, athletic and arts extracurriculars, and service learning and spiritual development, our high school counseling program centers on each student finding his “fit” for where to enroll upon graduation.

High School Test Prep Course

During the first trimester of eighth grade, we provide a preparation class for the High School Placement Test. Using the Peterson’s Master the Catholic High School Entrance Exams text, students will receive instruction about the format, scoring, question types, and best strategies to employ when tackling this exam. Since the HSPT is a timed test, it is critical that students learn techniques to increase their speed, while maintaining accuracy in their responses. An initial diagnostic exam enables the students to identify areas of potential improvement. Our instructor tailors lessons to address these areas. In addition to the class textbook, students have access to practice questions from supplementary resources. Additional support can be scheduled with the teacher after school. At the conclusion of the trimester, students will complete a second full-length exam to access improvements and increase familiarity and comfort with the testing process. Interview skills and mock interview will conclude the course. In addition to this stand alone course, students in eighth grade receive daily embedded practice questions in each course that provide further practice and preparation for the high school entrance exams.
